My husband and I acquired our 3 dogs in 2002. We've never had purebred or registered dogs so this is a very new experience. I chose the Jack Russell Terrier after researching the breed and watching the behaviour of family members dogs for the last 3 years.

I became intrigued with Jack Russell terriers after reading about them in the early 1980's. I wasn't able to find one at that time and I had small children so the idea went on a back burner.

My sister purchased a pair in the late 90's, the dogs she has are not registered. My first dog, Phoebe is out of her pair. I believe that Phoebe is a very nicely typed smooth coated JRT.

Having Phoebe led me down the path to considering a papered dog. I chose AKC for a number of personal reasons. Once I made that decision I started trying to find an AKC JRT, I soon discovered there are not a lot of these dogs readily available.

I used the internet to find a breeder, I made several attempts to find a breeder in my area. Luckily I found Sue Futral of Foxbury Farms in Oregon. I was able to buy two puppies from Sue.

The first puppy I named Chancey MacFarland, he was born 4/2/02 and he is a mostly white tri colored lightly broken coated dog. He has a very nice pedigree and his mother is a champion. He is a very sweet dog and loves to hunt. After having Chancey for a while I decided I had to have an AKC female. I went back to Sue because I liked Chancey's temprement and would like another very much like him. I was lucky to contact Sue a couple of weeks before Ruby was born and reserved a female.

Ruby was born 8/30/02, she has a very nice pedigree and several champions in her background. Her registration name is Foxbury Ruby Somer Skye. Ruby is another mostly white broken coated tri. She is very even tempered and sweet. I believe she may be show type.

Both of my registered dogs belong to the Somerset line. I owe Julie Dalby a lot for putting the time and effort into this breed that I believe my dogs are good representatives of.
